Company cannot terminate you for: 
 
1. sick leave: company pays salary
2. vacation leave: company pays salary
3. FMLA leave: 12 weeks family / medical leave for illness, adoption, cares for family members, provided by fedearl law, company pays nothing, you might get short/long term disability insurance payout.

After all these leaves, if you do not return to work, you are absent without leave, the copmany can choose to terminate you.
