Parking ticket

Hi, I am from Maine (ME). I got a parking ticket in New York. But the state in the ticker was MD (Maryland). Appearantly the police made a mistake. If I do not pay the fine and do not contact the police department about the mistake, will I be in trouble in the future? Thanks.
