How to deal with Insurance

A year ago while I was stop at a traffic light, a can rare-ended my car. It was total other party's fault. After a year's treatment, the other party's insurance want to pay me $1K for auto damage, all medical costs, and $1K for body injury compensation. I think $1K is not enough for my suffer in the past year.

Right now, the insurance won't pay me more than $1k. Since I didn't get a atterney to represent me, I don't have a way to ask for more compensation.

Does anyone have the same situation? Any suggestions? Get an atterney now?

BTW, I am in USA now.
