If you have affirmative defense then you need to show evidence. Otherwise in a criminal case the prosecutor has the burden to prove every element of the crime beyond reasonable doubt. You and your attorney do not have to do anything in the pre-trial, or your attorney could make motions to get some of the prosecutor's evidence thrown out.
