我的麻烦事还真多。我能找回我的存储器(thumb drive)吗? how to sue?

在24小时监控的工程学院公用小型计算机室，我落了我的 thumb drive 的在one computer's USB里，一夜过后我回去取，我的 thumb drive已不翼而飞了。管理员不让我看监控录像，他花了几天时间也没查出可疑人身份，今天他来一email，说: "
I regret to inform you that we were unsuccessful in identifying the
individual who used PC xx-xx in xxxxxx after you left your thumb
drive in it on December 7th. I checked with all of the faculty and no
one seems to know who the individual is. ... I will be closing this ticket as there unfortunately is no more I can do to help you. I have saved a copy of the recordings for December 7th in xxxx, and will supply these files to the Police if they conduct an investigation. We at xxx are truly sorry for your loss."
