据英国媒体7月31日报道，借助于欧洲南方天文台的甚大望远镜，科学家发现位于猎户座的一颗名为参宿四(Betelgeuse)的恒星质量正大幅减少。目前，这颗恒星即将走到生命尽头之际，最新的观测结果或许有助于科学家最终搞清楚恒星在临终之际质量锐减的具体过程。
