四川省凉山州是我国彝族最大的聚居区。每年的农历6月24日，凉山彝族同胞要穿上节日的盛装，载歌载舞，举办声势浩大的选美活动和服饰、赛马、摔交、射箭的比赛，并在夜晚点燃火把在旷野中游行，纪念他们心中的英雄。此曲反应的是四川大凉山彝族同胞火把节狂欢的景象.
