U can't just drop ur kid off and wait in the waiting room. Kids will not cooperate. Dentists will try and then easily give up. Remember, it's just a business for them and it's ur kid , not their kids. I m a RN I dont like to general anesthetic my kid. She will hate me and fight and bite me for the moment but I know I m doing the best for her. I work with a lot anesthesiologists and most of them work in dental suits. I know how pediatric dentist manage their cases. If they tell u the whole process takes about 5 hours, keep in mind that the 5 hours include the pre op prep, actual procedure, post anesthesia recovery, then to ward, then you will see ur kid. The actual procedure time is probably less than 50%. The actual GA TIME is the less the better. U can IMAGINE how much time the pediatric dentist spend on each cavity! Take ur time,make each individual appointment, find a kid friendly general dentist, fill the cavity one by one with local feezing. This would be my two cents. I even gave my kid Tylenol and gravol the first time to help her tough out. Also, watch ur kid carefully, don't chew on the tissues. This should be easily preventable.
