－ An application package must pass the first layer of filtering, which is the acdemics, the "hardware": GPA, SAT/ACT and rankings of high schools, and awards, (unless for some exceptional cases, like legencies, and special talents).

－ This first filter would definitely narrow down the applicant pool to the scales of thousands (or so depends on the school), then the AOs would need to read the essays, recommendation letters, EC activities, etc. to draw a picture of the applicant as a "whole person".
