I think Jane is just playing a joke here. Sometimes added exaggeration is necessary to make a good story and get the point across. It is common sense that how a couple shares their housework depends on themselves. Although cultures certainly have big impacts upon their decisions, but family traditions and individual life styles also play very important roles. So please let's leave the discussion at the level of individual families. When the comparison were done among continents/countries, it could easily become offensive :-) right?
