Recipe of Grandna Demler's Sandtarts (图)


Grandma Demler is my mother in law's mother. My mother in law put her mom's recipes on their family book "RUMINATION AND REMINISCENCE". The recipe of Sandtart was one of those. The recipe is as follow: Ingredients 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 2 rounded cups flour 1 egg for glaze cinnamon pecans (optional0 colored sugar (optional) Beat the softened butter and the sugar until light. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until light and fluffy. Add the flour last. Refrigerate the dough overnight. Use a small amount of dough at a time and leave the rest of the dough in the refrigerator until ready to use. Roll out the dough until very thin on a well-floured board (I use a pastry cloth and stocking). Cut out with round cookie cutter (or one that does not have sharp angles in it). Place on a cookie sheet. Beat on egg with one tsp. Brush on surface of cookies as a glaze. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Add pecan half, if desired, or colored sugar. Bake at 375' for about 5-7 minutes until light brown. Watch carefully, these cookies bake quickly. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on rack. There are the children's favorite Christmas cookies.
