i think that you need to let him know about your concern

i believe that he doesn't know about your dissatisfaction and disappointment. You should let him know about that instead of leaking your anger in other small things.
I think when it comes to expensive gifts, most American men are quite frugal. That might be a cultural difference. Chinese men like to use expensive gifts, money to show their love, while American guy like to show their love by taking you out for a romantic dinner, giving you a bundle of followers, a hug or a kiss.
I don't think that he being too close to his parents before he get marry is a big problem.
I also think that a couple arguing over small things is meaningless. A heart to heart talk would much more helpful
Whether he is your Mr. right, you are the only one to know.
