Personally that's not the style that I like - overly controlling to me.

But companies are different from one to the other, and managers are different from one to the other. I have seen both types of managers. And the managers normally like other team memebers follow his/her style.

My current job is a very "self-disciplined" environment, it is good and bad. Good: you don't need to report to you manager everyday, you don't even need to talk to them in days. They trust your capability to get work done before the deadline. And most people can do that. Bad: once in a while, some people don't tell the managers any problem till the day before deadline, big time for evernone...
