the American middle class is often divided into three sub-sets. The more financially better compensated, higher educated members of the middle class who may derive a certain degree of prestige from their occupations are commonly classified as being "Upper middle class." Workers who are most commonly not professionals and whose financial compensation is closer to the middle of the income strata may identified as middle-middle class, while those who fall below the average may be identified as being "Lower middle class."[2]
