If yiu just know each other there are not too many topics to talk about so during this phase people usually text or chat on line. Once you get more and more comfortable calls would make more sense. Also if you realize your guy is that way it may also mean that the chemistry is not right. Once the chemistry is right even you just met there are still a lot to talk about in person or on the phone.
