I had the same idea. Want to go to Japan then onto China sometime next year. I don't like tour groups. Plan to buy a guide book and do it ourselves. Would like to fly into tokyo and see Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Kobe. Finally take the ferry from Kobe to Tianjin. I heard Kyoto has a lot of sights and is a must-see. Also heard a lot about Mt. Fuji. Would like to do a night climb.

Have you got the visa yet? If you have chinese passport, you would need a transit visa to Japan. Have a nice trip and come back and tell us about it.
