When they provide I-407 for abandonment of green card, the VO in the US Consulate will stamp the I-407 and return it to your parents. This stamped I-407 equals to the green card abandonment receipt. Your parents need to show it to the IO at the port of entry when they enter US, and also need to provide the copy of it when they apply for the green card again.
