Travel during H1 Extension.

Do you have any suggestion if I go back China during the period of H1 visa extension, but come back before my old H1 expires? And I also need to change my F1 to H1 in Beijing. My renewal of H1 was submitted at the end of Oct. I'll leave US in Dec. and come back in Jan. My H1 will expire at the end of Feb.
