Can he use AP after 485 approv

My hu*****and need to make a trip outside US. He has AP and EAD. He just had his FP on April 8. He plans to enter US by AP. My questions is: 1) what will happen if his case is approved while he is outside US? 2) Could he enter US using AP instead?
