For example, your I485 was approved on 3/25/05, your GC will be valid from then.

When I was at that step, I just showed the HR my approval notice and they made a copy. That is it. But you'd better make an appointment with infopass to have your passport stamped. It takes uaually two weeks. And your real card will reach you within one month.
