485 interview questions

I just received 485 interview notice from local office. My NIW-140 was approved last year. My lawyer said he must go to this interview with us. Is it a must? Can we go to the interview without the lawyer? He will charge $500 for this. What kinds of documents I should take and what questions the officer would ask? Thanks very much for any suggestions!
