Similar but different for one point.

1040, in the deduction line, you can claim either the Standard deduction or intemized deduction, whichever is higher, use that one.

1040A is a simple version of 1040. It just allows you to take standard deduction. So if your itemized one is lower than standard one, go ahead and use 1040A
