Keeping OPT or changing to HIB

I got my PH.D at 12,2004 and I am OPT untill Nov.
I got a post-doctor position in our university. Boss said I can switch to HIB anytime I want. But I have to pay the all application fee.I still want to look for another job outside. I can't 100% if I can find another job before opt expires( Nov). Would someone give me advice,
1.Can increase my opportunity for finding a job if I have a HIB in school,ever if it still need wait the new quote in this year?
2. If I need to occupy this HIB opportunity?
3. Or waiting as long as my opt can be used, and then transfer my visa in the last min?
