assuming your boyfriend was under 21 when his father naturalized and assuming the I-130 petition was filed on or before 8/6/02, then he is an immediate relative.Otherwise he would be in 1st preference, according to Jan 1, 2005 visa bulletin, for 1st preference, they are currently processing case with priority date of 12/22/2000. If you marry your boyfriend, it will be converted to 3rd preferency categoty, for now they are processing case with priority date of 12/22/1997. In sum, marriage will significally dely your boyfriend's green card.
