I donot know exactly how long it takes for security check. I heard it may take 3 weeks-4 months in Beijing at present. You can go to http://proxy.smth.edu.cn:8000/ver2.html to look at current situation in Beijing. But I think the situation in Beijing is quite different from other places. 仅供参考
I donot think it will affect your application if you call or fax them.
