1. The immigration officer will still very probably give
your mom six months staying time on I-94 form despite the
annotation visa officer marked. Many of my friends'
parents' experience showed it.

2. I personally think your idea would work. Whether or
not it will be easier next time depends on the situation
at that time, but it will qualify the non-interview visa
application procedure.
