I didn't get the passport

stamped today when I went for the interview today. The officer said FBI security checking is not finished and we need to wait. The status of my 485 is thus 'pending'.

I am a little confused to see a lot of post here saying they 'went to the interview and got the passport stamped.' It seems naturally they will stamp your passport if there is not problem in the interview. But, we seem didn't do anything special today except answering several questions and showing some original documents. Then what's the purpose of this interview? Is it just show up for them to check up the two people (me and my hu*****and), or should a decision to be made whether they will stamp on the passport?

The officer just said we need to wait for the FBI check. Please share your informaiton if your know. I am kind of confused...
