Thank you very much for the earnest answers from you guys. I was a visiting scholar sponsored by 国家留学基金委 which means 国家公派访问学者. I had no problem in China, but I have no way to get Non-objection statement from NY consulate. That's what my special background was...Did you guys know somebody else who was also 国家公派 J1 holder and doesn't want to go back China either?
