请问, 申请美国公民是否需要有效的中国护照吗？

我拿美国绿卡已经8年多，最近想申请美国公民，但发现自己的中国护照已经过期了。请问，在这种情况下，我是否可以申请美国公民？还是要先申请换新的中国护照，再申请美国公民？
