You must show your documents to get the new stamp on your passport and I-94 for the new status at the port of entry. Some people may not get the new stamp when travelling by land between US and Canada/Mexicon because they do not change status (e.g. a H-1B holder travels to Canada and comes back within 30 days using the valid H-1B I-94), and that is not your case.
