Teacher 8, one question regarding status change

I got H1B lottery this year and my H1B was approved this year but later on  I was laid off.

I found a new job and the attorney sumbitted the h1b tansfer to USCIS today.

At present, I am taking full-time classes at school to keep my status as F1.   Today is Oct. 1, it is the effective day of the h1b.

I am waiting for the approval of the h1b transfer. But  a friend of mein said I have to report to  International office at school about the change of my status to h1b. Is it correct?
