我父亲绿卡2016年3月份到期，提前6个月的话今年10份可以递交材料，但是不知道要多久才能收到新绿卡。
国内一个很近的亲戚12月20号结婚，父母一定要回去，所以爸爸想2016年的一月中下旬回美国，然后递交材料，申请renew绿卡，但是我担心太晚，会不会在他回来的时候入境有问题。

想咨询下一般renew都需要多久？绿卡还有半年过期可以处境并在过期前顺利回到美国吗？我父亲的这种情况大家有没有什么其他好的建议呢？
