Can I apply for NIW when work

in a biotech Company doing research work funded by NIH grant?

I will have an interview with a start-up biotech company, I am a little concerned if the company will survive after 2 or 3 years. But I am interested in the position and since the job market is so tough right now so I really want this job if I get offer (this is so far the first interview I get). I am wondering if I can apply for GC through NIW so I don't need company sponsorship, so if the company fail later, I could still have GC application and have work experience and look for next job.

Any comment?
