-Because your H-1 was denied after your H-4 was approved, your stay was legal during the H-4 pending though you did not have a legal status due to the "bridge" born. You were lucky to get the H-4 approval before the H-1 denial, otherwise your H-4 would have been denied due to the H-1 denial. So, hire an immigration lawyer to help you to justify this in the I-290B filing.
