求助：J-1 scholar转 J-1student

持“J-1 scholar”签证来美，现在申请PhD, 请教：
1.如拿到学校PhD offer,想转j-1 student 是否需去第三国签证？
2.如转成j-1 student, 则该身份有效期是否与PhD
program 时间相当(比如五年)？
3.申请PhD的学校与J-1 scholar的学校不同，是否可以，需另外办什么手续？
