有位朋友在休short term disability期间被lay off，请问这是合法的吗？

-Depends on the layoff reason. You can be laid off for business reasons during the short-term disability if the layoff would have occurred whether or not you are on short-term disability.
 Of course, they can not lay off you just because you are on short-term di*****ability (can not use this as the layoff reason).
