Am I qualified for I485/I40?

Dear DX:

My opt is expiring soon. I am working in a bank and got my Ph.D. last year.

I am expecting an offer from a college. But haven't got it yet. Should I ask them to do the petition H-1 as soon as I got the offer or should it starts when I begin to teach?

If I couldn't get the offer. Can I file the I485/I140 as an Extrodinary Alien. I am currently working in an IT department of a bank. I am playing a leading role there. And I have several publications in average conferences. My research background is Internet and Wireless, which is the bank trying to use.
