8 teacher, please come in. Can I use EAD to work with H4 status

My case is 485 was received on 11/04, fp was done, no ead or any update information online status available, still in intial review, and my h1b will expire by the end of feb. I called in the uscis, they said if I called in on feb. 4th (after 3 month), then can ask to produce an interim ead for me. my question is how long will they need to produe the interim ead?

do I still need to change from h1 to h4? can I work using interim ead with h4 status?
