K-3 is not as useful as before because the processing time for I-130 for this category (USC's spouse) is so much faster in past few years.  If your I-485 is failed due to failing the two interviews and you then go back to China, you won't be able to do K-3 either.  The I-130 would be considered denial or revoked after approval.
