H4 question

I got my H1B before my OPT expired in October 1. However, because of some reasons my wife does not get her H4 in time. Her H4 got approved in October 18 and the Notice says it is valid for one year starting from October 18. So she did not have a legal status between October 1 to October 17. I just wonder if there is any problem with her status. Does she have to go back to China?
