I do not know why you are so nervous about the request. There is no confilict between NIW and H1B. When I renewed my H1B, my school asked me to turn in all copies of materials including passport, I-94, I-140, and notice of finger print notice. I did not see any trouble in it.

If you do not have any gap, you have nothing to worry about. Good Luck!
