My previous employer wants to hire me back after I move to another state.

Since I am out of state, they can only give me w-9 instead of w2.

 

I am a green card holder. is that ok for me to receive the w-9 legally?

what is the difference between w2 and w9, and 1099?

-All three are for taxt purpose. W2 is for formal employee (long term/permanent job), 1099 is for short term job,  W9 is also for short term job or contractor.
