You need to get the Canadian visa to enter Canada from the Canadian Embassy in US. If you will return to US within one month from Canada, you do not need to get the h1 visa and just enter US using your H1 I-94 with the H1 approval notice (bring your recent 3 month paycheck stubs with you). If you will stay in Canada for > one month, you need to get the H1 visa in the US Embassy/Consulate in Canada to come back.
