My green card is going to expire in 1/5/2011. I have filed for renewal earlier this month and still in process. At this circumstance, could I still legally work after Jan 5? 

-Yes as long as your employer has no problem. If your employer has a problem, you just need to bring your passport and the I-90 filing receipt to the USCIS local office to get the green card stamp on your passport, and then you can work and travel using the GC stamp.
