Parent GC question

My parents are over 70 years old and they do not intend to work in the U.S. I decided not to apply I-765 for them as they already have social security number and drivers license. The lawyer suggested to apply for it regardless. Any downside NOT to apply? Thanks for your help. Much appreciatd.
