I am holding H-1 and my I-485 is penging now. I try to apply AP today but from I-131 instruction :"if you are in the US and wish to travel abroad, you do not need to apply for AP if you are H-1 with I-485 pending", see the link above.

Is that true?

-Yes. You can use AP to come back. If you do not use AP, you need to apply for the H1 visa to come back without affecting your I-485. Up to you, either AP or H1 visa to come back.
