-do not do naything special and just do as you do not have the pending H4. If your H4 extension is approved before you come back, your new I-94 at the port of entry using the H4 visa will override the H4 extension I-94. If the H4 extension is approved after you return, the H4 extension I-94 will override the entry I-94. No matter what, your h4 status and duration will not be affected because your H4 status (extension or entry with h4 visa) and duration are all based on your spouse's same H1 (approval notice) status and duration.
