绿卡在去年9月份批准，今年初去当地社安office办理社安卡更新，一直到4月份搬家去外州时，被告知仍在处理中。后来去信询问，却要求本人前往该office当面询问！期间也曾去外州当地的社安office 询问，被告知无能为力，因为这个case 还没有closed, 不能从新办理申请。

我的问题是：1. 这个社安卡的更新是必须的吗？

-You had better renew the SSN card because the original one may have some kind of benefit limitation. But it does not mean you have to renew it immediately or in a certain period of time after you become the GC holder.

很多周围的朋友在拿到绿卡很多年了，都不知道社安卡更新这回事。如果不更新，会有什么后果？

2． 象我这样的case, 该怎么办？
