If the Human Resources does not know whether the company has filed teh GC application to you, that means the company does nothing about it for you because the HR needs to involve every procedure for the GC application such as advertisement of the position, Prevail wage determination, PERM and I-140 filing.
The lawyer just pepare the documents for the HR to sign, nothing else for the lawyer to do (he/she has no right to do other things).
Also, you will be asked to provide your personal information such as degree diploma, etc.
