Finger print & 485 approval

case_09/29/2005, EB2, we made service request by mistake on May 17th, got email with no visa available. Today got another email as following: Thank you for your inquiry. The fingerprints have expired. A new appointment will be sent.
Does they really need FP to approve your case? anybody has similar experience. Because it happened before for us. After renew the FP, the visa was back. Thanks a lot for any help.
